Yousuf Karsh

Yousuf Karsh is said to be one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th century. Time magazine claims. Yousuf Karsh is an unique and different as he has a distinct style in his theatrical lighting. One unique thing he does is that he separately lights the subjects hands.

"As Karsh wrote of his own work in Karsh Portfolio in 1967, "Within every man and woman a secret is hidden, and as a photographer it is my task to reveal it if I can. The revelation, if it comes at all, will come in a small fraction of a second with an unconscious gesture, a gleam of the eye, a brief lifting of the mask that all humans wear to conceal their innermost selves from the world. In that fleeting interval of opportunity the photographer must act or lose his prize.""

He has taken portraits of famous celebrities and even taken picture of Winston Churchill. Capturing a strong message with each photo, documenting and displaying the life's life.

Richard Avedon

Richard Avedon is a portrait photographer that has been bold in pushing the bar of American portrait photography. He focused more on fashion and portrait photography. He created his own unique style to break away from the common types of photography back in the past.

Richard Avedon photographed many celebrities and famous icon, applying his own photographic style to fashion photography.
An obituary published in The New York Times said that "his fashion and portrait photographs helped define America's image of style, beauty and culture for the last half-century".

Richard Avelon revolutionised American photography and fashion photography.

Giles Duley

This is Giles Duley, before he was injured he worked as a editorial photographer for companies in the  fashion and music industry. He currently works mostly on humanitarian projects for a number of charities. Like IOM and UNHCR. Giles Duley captures the strength of the human body and the will to persevere. His photos create a sense of empathy for the victims as well as allows the views to feel a sense of connection with the subjects.

Giles Duley was on patrol in 2011 with the 75th Calvary Regiment with the United States of America in Afghanistan when he steped on an IED (improvised explosive device). This caused Giles Duley to loss an arm and 2 legs.

Giles images capture the raw struggles of the lives of people who are less fortunate to have the normal human functions. His images make you feel a wide range of emotions. On one hand, i feel empathy and pity but on the other, I feel a sense of motivation. A motivation and a cheerful spirit to see that the subject dont have it all. The subjects dont have what I have and yet i take it for granted. But they are making do with what they have.

"Although documenting challenging, and at times, horrific situations, Duley captures the strength of those who fight their adversity rather than succumb."

Here are some of his works.

Giles Duley truly is an inspiring photographer as he not just has visual elements in his photographs. But he has the most important thing photographers lack these days. He has the ability to tell a story. Each photograph he takes holds significant weight as its dedicated to a survivor. By showing their disabilities, it gives a voice to the voiceless. Helping them tell their own story.

David Maisel

This week I'm going to be writing about David Maisel. David Maisel is a photographer who captures aerial views of the earth. His images evoke a ray of emotions with his unique colours and shapes. He photographs land that has been affected by man, how we as human can infect and cause an area to decay.
He focuses on images that show the effects that men have left behind on the land. Pollutions, deforestations and other impacts.

I really like his unique way of capturing photographs. The aerial views give you a whole new perspective and makes you think and feel differently. The colours in his images also play an important role as they look so man made and so unnatural. I really love his images!

@orhganic Ng Wei Jie

This week I decided to write about an Instagrammer. His name is Ng Wei Jie, he is an undergrad in Singapore and is a famous and recognised Instagrammer. He plays with monochromatic colours and does something unique. His images consist of structures and buildings to form the outline of the subject. He plays with juxtaposition to also keep his followers questioning what are his true intentions.

Ng Wei Jie cuts his images up to form a larger picture when viewed from his home page. Thus, creating a unique image when seen from afar. This is a very difficult method of Instagram photography on Instagram as you have to meticulously post images in its specific order. One picture off and the whole account will look weird. Plus, he has to ensure that the single image he posts has to be engaging enough. He has to concentrate not only on forming the larger image but also the smaller ones. Here are some of his work.
Photography is ever changing and more and more people are taking their photographic creativity to Instagram. I believe Instagram is the future of photography. No longer is it the point the shoot, but rather the edits and designs that make a picture stand out.
